ISD - The International School of Dakar


Dr. Alan Knobloch- Director

Alan Knobloch is the Director at ISD. Prior to Dakar, he was the Deputy Superintendent of the Shanghai American School (Puxi Campus) in China, where he served for three years. He was also the High School Principal there for four years.

Dr. Knobloch has served as a Middle School Principal at the American International School in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and at the North Broward Preparatory School in Florida. He has also taught at several schools in the United States, as well as at the Singapore American School and at the American School of Niamey in Niger, where he started his international teaching career. He received his B.S. in Special Education from Boston University, his M.Ed. Administration/Supervision from Plymouth State University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. Dr. Knobloch is married to Eileen Knobloch and they have two children who attend ISD.

Dr. Ian Clark - ES Principal

Dr. Ian Clark is the Elementary School Principal at ISD. Prior to this, he was Middle School Assistant Principal at the American Embassy School, New Delhi, where he worked for 6 years. He has been in education for over 20 years, initially as a classroom teacher in the UK public school system. He then moved to Nairobi, Kenya where he taught for 4 years, and following a move to teach in London for 3 years, he moved to New York to work at the Town School for 5 years. This is where he met Sarah, also a teacher and now his wife with whom he has two young children. He received his B.Ed. (Hons) in Elementary Education from Leeds University, UK, an M.A. in Educational Management from Bath University, UK, and a doctorate in Educational Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota.

Brad Bell - MSHS Principal

Mr. Brad Bell is the Middle and High School Principal at ISD as of August 2012. Prior to Dakar, Brad served as an assistant principal at Hamilton High School in Chandler Arizona, USA for the past 4 years. His other international posting was at the American International School in Egypt. Brad has been in education for 24 years.  He received his B.A. in Physics from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee USA. He received his M.S. in Physical Education from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. Brad is married to Wendy Welander (IB Coordinator and Art teacher at ISD). Brad has two grown children living in California.

John Wishart - Director of Technology

John began his career in education in 1987 as an Technology, Math and Science teacher. At the end of his second year he was running the college network and improving systems. He has been a Technology Director for a large school district in Shanghai, for ISKenya and as a Technology Specialist in Jakarta. John received a M.Ed. in International Administration from Trenton State College; a B.SC. in Computer Engineering from Auckland University, NZ; a Dip. Tchg; and numerous technology certifications including CCNE-I, MSCE, NCE, A+, Web.

Murray Te Huki - Director of Athletics & Activities

Mr. Murray Te Huki has been the Athletic and Activities Director at ISD since August 2010. Prior to this position, he was the Athletic and Activities Director at The Anglo American School of Sofia, Bulgaria for 11 years and prior to that the Athletic Director and Grade 6 teacher at The ICARDA International School of Aleppo, Syria for 4 years and he taught Grade 6 and 7 students in Hawera, New Zealand for 12 years. He will be the current Co Chair of the West African International Schools' Athletic League. Mr. Te Huki is entering his 27th year of teaching and 13th year serving with school administration. He holds a B. ED in Education. Raised in New Zealand, Mr. Te Huki is an avid sportsman and is especially passionate about rugby. Mr. Te Huki’s family accompanies him at ISD, including his wife Jennifer, and his sons Taine and Kairangi.

Barbara Fultz - Curriculum Coordinator / IB Mathematics

Barbara has worked in education for over 30 years. She has experience educating all levels of learners, elementary though university level. Barbara’s career in education began in the state of Maine and continued in California, Ohio and Florida.
Barbara began her International School career in 1995 at the International School of Jakarta where she met her partner John Wishart. Barbara has taught all levels of mathematics, including all levels of IB. She has served on several curriculum committees over the years, and is delighted to be coordinating curriculum at ISD.  Barbara has a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and an Administration certification from the University of South Florida.
