High School

What does our high school offer?

The ISD High School is a comprehensive four-year high school offering a college preparatory program. There are approximately 80 students enrolled at ISD in grades 9-12. Our high school program consists of a full menu of course offerings and elective classes for grades 9-12 in addition to offering Advanced Placement (AP) courses in French Language, English Literature, English Language, Biology, Calculus AB, Psychology, Human Geography and Studio Art. Teachers are certified in their countries of origin, and have experience teaching at the secondary level using a U.S. based curriculum.

A student must have accumulated 28 hours of credits during his/her high school career which encompasses 9th through 12th grades. Each field of study has a certain number of credits that must be completed successfully. A credit is earned when one year of study in a certain subject is completed. One-third of a credit is earned when a trimester of study in a certain subject is completed. A normal credit load is 8 credits per year.

Part of ISD’s mission states that students will become “responsible global citizens.” To that end, ISD also requires that high school students complete 100 hours of Service Learning in addition to their academic work. ISD’s Service Learning Coordinator provides students with a variety of possibilities for fulfilling this requirement, including working at local orphanages, with Habitat for Humanity, tutoring English at a local school, and other engaging projects. Sometimes, to learn, it helps to sweat a little!

What makes our high school special?

Our ultimate goal is to provide a high school learning environment that engages not only students’ minds, but also their hearts. Attainment of this goal will provide the opportunity for students to achieve their full potential as global citizens in the democratic process.

Our strong academic program challenges students to do their personal best in an atmosphere where small classes of less than 20 students and excellent teachers are norm.

We also believe that high school students learn best in an environment where personal connections and a sense of community are fostered. We strive to maintain an atmosphere where diversity is valued and appreciated and where respect for the various cultures represented at our school is demonstrated daily.
