ISD has a strong visual Arts program, with classes leading up to Advanced Placement Studio Art for high school juniors and seniors. In addition to 2 dimensional art, students will do sculpting and other work with clay. We have a kiln. Each year, students look forward to the annual Art Show, when works from the year are put on display and parents are invited to campus to tour their children’s products.
ISD’s music department is dynamic and rapidly growing department. Elementary school students attend general music classes where they are exposed to a variety of musical genres from different eras and cultures through singing, movement, active listening, and instrument playing, resulting in several performances a year. Students are instructed on Orff instruments, non-pitched percussion such as drums and shakers, and recorder. Middle school general music continues to develop the skills and understandings developed in the elementary school with the addition of guitar and keyboarding skills.
The High School music program is a performance-based program built on developing musicianship through singing. The High School offers two elective choirs: Concert Choir and Advanced Choir. The Concert Choir introduces students to the basics of healthy singing and choral musicianship, including posture, breath support, diction, balance, blend and musical theory. These skills are enhanced and developed in the Advanced Choir. Both choirs are taught a variety of musics from diverse cultures and musical eras.
