About ISD

Established in 1983, the International School of Dakar (ISD) is an independent, non-profit, co-educational day school for Pre-Kindergarten (age 3) through Grade 12.

We provide an enriched international education that reflects the diverse backgrounds of our students and faculty. Our academic year runs from mid-August to mid-June, and our goal is to cultivate accomplished learners who are resilient problem-solvers committed to serving others. All ISD programs are run in English while cultivating and celebrating the multilingualism of our community.

What Makes ISD Unique

Our Community

We are a community dedicated to providing enriching educational experiences that encourage self-discovery and mutual understanding, fostering unity and peace.

At ISD, we strive to ensure every voice is heard, respected, and valued in all aspects of school life.

We believe flexibility and compassion are key as we learn and grow together.

Our Facilities

ISD's attractive eight-acre campus in Dakar's Mermoz neighborhood, near the Corniche offers modern facilities.

These include well-equipped science and computer labs, bright classrooms, a library, outdoor playgrounds, and a food service area. Our spacious arts facilities feature a 350-seat theater, black-box theater, art studio, and pottery room.

Our vibrant school-community hub also boasts dedicated sports facilities like a gymnasium, sports field, swimming pool, two courts, and a track, hosting many after-school and weekend activities.

Our Board of Trustees

ISD is governed by a dedicated Board of nine trustees, primarily parents or those closely connected to our school.

These volunteers are elected by ISD parents and faculty or appointed by the Board, serving renewable two-year terms. The Board meets monthly from August to May and holds an annual community meeting each spring.

We also benefit from the insights of non-voting representatives, including the US Ambassador's Representative and a Faculty Representative, as well as our school leadership. Parents and faculty are welcome to observe the public portions of Board meetings.

Contact the Board at boardbox@isd.sn, and access agendas, minutes, and policies via the ISD parent portal.
