From Jaguar to Co-Founder: ISD Alum Brings UniTru to ISD
For Jordan Dikoum, Class of 2019, coming back to the International School of Dakar (ISD) is not solely about reminiscing about high school memories; it’s also about giving back to a school that has shaped who he is today. ISD’s partnership with the company Jordan co-founded, UniTru, gives current ISD high schoolers access to colleges and universities around the world.
Giving Back to the School That Shaped Him
“Dakar is home, and ISD is the school I grew up in and graduated from,” said Jordan, who attended ISD Secondary School from 2015 -2019. As the co-founder of UniTru, he said the partnership with ISD is a “full-circle moment,” allowing him to return to campus after all these years and give back to the next generation of Jaguars.
Jordan grew up internationally before graduating high school from ISD in Senegal in 2019. Beyond his academics, he was a key figure in student life and competed actively in WAISAL. After ISD, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing & Entrepreneurship from Penn State University.
Driven by a passion for innovation, Dikoum co-founded UniTru, with a mission to help international and out-of-state students find their university fit through virtual conversations and tours. By directly connecting prospective applicants with current university students, UniTru gives future undergraduates an unedited, honest look into campus life before committing to a university.
UniTru is a platform where aspiring college students can have authentic connections with students currently on university campuses. No brochures. No marketing videos. Just real conversations with real students giving one-on-one insights and campus virtual tours to encourage the use of “student voices, (to make) student choices."
Connecting Students to Global Universities Through Student Voices
The choice of which college or university to attend is a big decision, and it can make a huge impact on a student's collegiate and personal life. ISD graduates are accepted to universities all over the world, making the decision of where to go even more complex. Usually, students depend on college visits to high schools or college fairs to learn more. Some students are able to do a few campus visits to colleges and universities. For international students, like those at ISD, accessing all the college options available can be challenging. UniTru helps solve this by avoiding the hassle of international travel and connecting our students with college students to help them get “to the heart” of colleges and universities around the world.
ISD has a strong commitment to college counseling and helping students find their best fit. Two college counselors work with high school students and parents as they make post-secondary plans. Providing access to UniTru to these students further expands this support to families.
An Ongoing Partnership
Jordan said he’s thankful to the entire ISD team for believing in what he and his team are building at UniTru. “I can’t wait to see where this partnership goes, and I’m especially looking forward to being back in Dakar and working with the students in person later this year."
ISD is proud to be working with Jordan and to see the benefits for our Class of 2027 and beyond.
