Dr. Alan Knobloch
Welcome to the International School of Dakar! ISD is a diverse community where children are welcomed, nurtured and challenged. The experienced and talented faculty provides well-rounded academic, arts, and athletic programs supplemented by a robust offering of after-school activities. The teachers are able to support students with a wide range of abilities and help them achieve their full potential. In addition, our school is committed to celebrating our international identity with families coming from over 50 different countries.
The International School of Dakar is an English-medium school, serving children in grades Pre-Kindergarten 3 through grade 12. ISD is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). The international curriculum is enhanced by the best educational practices from around the world including the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program for students in grades 11 and 12. ISD is also a candidate school for the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) and the IB Middle Years Program (MYP).
Through specialized teachers, ISD is able to support students who are learning English as another language as well as students with mild learning disabilities. Our graduates have attended universities in the United States, Canada, and Europe including some of the top universities in the world such as Harvard, Stanford, University of Toronto and the University of Bath, UK.
The beautiful campus overlooks the Atlantic Ocean with bright classrooms, a spacious library, art, and music rooms, state-of-the-art science and computer labs. There are additional amenities including playgrounds, a soccer field, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, as well as basketball courts. ISD is currently in the process of constructing a new gymnasium and Performing Arts Center (PAC) which will serve the needs both of ISD and the larger Dakar community. ISD families are encouraged to enjoy the use of these facilities after school and on the weekends.
It is with great pleasure that I sincerely welcome those of you who are new to our learning community. To those who have already been a part of ISD, I say welcome back. I look forward to greeting you all personally as we embark together on the educational journey that is the 2018-2019 school year.
