Preparing for a School Transition - Helpful Information

Elementary School

For those returning to the U.S.A and applying for Elementary schools

For all applications, parents should have a folder with the following downloaded:

  • 3 years of school reports
  • 3 years of MAP data

Public schools - Many will accept these documents directly from you, and that will be all that is required. They may request they come from ISD rather than you.
Private schools - Many will need ISD to send these documents, as they want to be sure they are correct and come from the school as a confidential source.

Private schools may request a letter of recommendation from ISD. Rarely is this an open letter, which teachers can write in advance. In most cases, it is an online form or document, that will be emailed directly to the school.

We can do this for you at any stage. If you need this during the summer holidays, it will be Frances who writes the recommendation within 48 hours. If this is requested while school is in session, homeroom teachers will complete the confidential recommendation, and then it will be sent along with reports, from the ES office.

In the holidays, if the new school is asking ISD to send the reports and/or MAP data, please let us know in advance so that we can ensure a quick turnaround.

For any support with this, please email me: franceslc@faculty.isd.sn and also copy Emefa: emefaa@faculty.isd.sn.

Secondary School

We acknowledge that our families experiencing uncertainty and facing unexpected change need personalized support. We will strive to respond specifically to each and every situation.

When applying to other schools, kindly consider the following steps:

  • At IBDP level, It is important to have a conversation with Ms Gifford, our IBDP Coordinator (wendyg@faculty.isd.sn), particularly regarding applications to IB schools. Please get in touch with the grade-level counselors regarding transcript transfers and university applications.
  • At MYP level, please get in touch with Mr. Carayol, Interim Assistant Principal Academics and MYP Coordinator (denrolc@faculty.isd.sn), to obtain all the academic paperwork needed to apply to other schools.

  • Counselors are also here for one-on-one support:
  • Estelle Hughes, Secondary School Principal (estelleh@faculty.isd.sn), will write references for each ISD student as soon as a school contacts her to do so. Estelle will also ensure that the connection between learning support and counseling happens if/when needed.

The Secondary School office is also reachable via Ms.Anna Rosenberg (annaro@faculty.isd.sn) if you have any questions.

Should you know your family is departing from ISD, please inform our Admissions department admissions@faculty.isd.sn.
