In most parts of the world, the admissions timeline is straightforward: there is one deadline by which students must submit their applications. In some places, such as in Korea and Japan and Hong Kong, there are different "application windows" during which students must apply. However, in the US (and in some other places), there are often a complicated assortment of different application types that students might consider. For example, some colleges and universities offer an Early Decision application round whereby students apply in early November and learn in mid-December of their application outcome; however, if they are admitted, then by agreeing to apply Early Decision, they are are agreeing to enroll. Then there are a few other application types that students should be aware of, all of which might be taken into consideration when articulating an application strategy. Students should certainly explore the options and opportunities at each of the institutions on their lists, as each will provide a different selection of possibilities and for different reasons!
