Secondary After School Activities Overview

Here's everything you need to know about secondary after school activities (ASAs) for ISD students in Grades 6 to 12.

Structure of Secondary ASAs at ISD

Secondary Athletics, Activities, and Arts are a bit different than our Elementary ASAs. The structure is largely the same. We organize these programs into terms or seasons. These terms follow (roughly) the same pattern as our Elementary ASAs.

  • Term 1: October 25 to December 17

  • Term 2: February 7 to April 8 **

  • Term 3: TBD

  • ** Term 2 has been postponed due to recent surge in Covid-19 cases. Please refer to this email HERE for more details **

Registration occurs in the weeks leading up to the beginning of the term. Please see the registration dates below.

  • Term 1: CLOSED

  • Term 2: December 13 to January 28 (2022)

  • Term 3: TBD

All Secondary Athletics run from 4:00pm to 5:30pm unless otherwise indicated or informed. Secondary Activities (non-team sport based) run from 3:30pm to 4:30pm unless otherwise noted.

How else do we use SchoolsBuddy?

We use SchoolsBuddy for a number of important purposes: - One way communications for school related issues - Parent Teacher Conferences - Elementary ASA Registration and Management - Permission and consent for field trips

Do I have to pay for Secondary Athletics, Activities, and Arts?

Nope! Costs associated with Secondary Athletics, Activities, and Arts are budgeted into our budgets via a graduated tuition program at ISD. Secondary students pay higher tuition than elementary students for this reason (among others).

Nuts and Bolts of Secondary Athletics, Activities, and Arts

When do Secondary Athletics, Activities, and Arts begin and end?

  • All secondary athletics begin at 4:00pm and end at 5:30pm unless your coach or the Athletics/Activities Director informs you otherwise.
    • Students should use this time after dismissal but before the start of practice to meet with teachers, work on assignments, or have a healthy snack.
  • All other secondary activities begin at 3:30pm and end at 4:30pm unless otherwise instructed.
  • Please always defer to the activity sponsor or coach for up to date information regarding dismissal from ASAs.

Do students need to follow Covid-19 protocols?

  • Absolutely. All students must follow current Covid-19 protocols at all times. These include, but are not limited to:
    • Mask wearing at all times indoors
    • Mask wearing outdoors when instructed by a coach or sponsor
    • Maintaining physical distance at all times
    • Maintaining proper hygiene and sanitary practices to limit the spread of infectious disease.
  • Please note that Secondary Athletics, Activities, and Arts may be postponed or canceled at any time due to on the ground changes in Covid-19 infection rates within our community or within Senegal and Dakar.

Are there tryouts for Secondary Athletics? What about cuts?

  • There are tryouts for Secondary Athletics but we do not cut students who are committed to being part of the team.
  • We make selections into separate teams ("A", "B", "C" Teams) but we will always ensure that every player who is committed to being part of our program will have a team to play on.
  • While we have a clear "no cut" policy, we do not have a "100% retention" policy. Students may be removed from a team for the following reasons:
    • Poor attendance
    • Consistant lateness
    • Behavior that is harmful to the team and/or the greater ISD community
    • Academic/Behavioral Probation
    • Consideration from Secondary Leadership and/or Athletics/Activities Director

I've got more questions... What do I do??

  • Talk to Mr. Colin!! He can be found in the new PE Office on the ground floor of the Athletics Complex. He's nice and has lots of answers.
  • Talk to Ms. Marieme!! She's also in the new PE Office. She's also nice and has lots of answers!!
  • Talk to Mr. Bouna!! He is located in the Aquatics Office. He's a Chelsea fan, but we don't hold that against him.
  • Please feel free to email any of us, we are happy to help.
